5. Computer Crash

I wrote this tune in 2006 to play with my working jazz quartet. At the time, I was playing regular gigs around town in NYC and was very inspired by the jazz scene. Instead of just playing straight time, it was common for a lot of young jazz artist's compositions to have mixed meters, changing from one time signature to another within the context of a tune. I've experimented with this idea a lot and I think this composition is one of the best products of my efforts.

This was the first tune I ever wrote out using computer notation software. It felt like I spent weeks working on it because I was also learning the program as I went along. Soon after I finished, and had everything perfect, my computer crashed and I lost everything!!! Luckily it didn't take nearly as long to write out the second time around and surely this gave me the perfect title for such a frantic tune.
